Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are connected to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is located on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile that is ideal for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machinery use either an electric motor or a combustion engine to be able to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator would have to move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, since the lift apparatus only operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the identical lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is particularly made for surfaces that are not even. These models also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through difficult and muddy terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be elevated both vertically and diagonally. This model has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to control the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics that power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms which are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machine has a bucket or a small work platform which is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled equipment. These machines provide a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is very important to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
