History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was initially established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machinery. During 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the succeeding years.
