Rough Terrain Forklift
At construction sites and other types of locations where the surface is not paved, the rough terrain forklift is recommended. This type of forklift is used to transport materials around lumberyards.

These types of forklifts are truly designed for rough terrain. Then again, the machine is top heavy and must be carefully handled in rough locations. The machine needs to be level with all tires on the ground when lifting.

At faster speeds, steering is harder. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration does not set speed limits on forklifts. However, drivers are responsible for operating forklifts at a speed that is safe, particularly when turning and driving on rough terrain.

Not lifting a load while operating on an incline will prevent tipping over. The load must be on the uphill side of the machine if driving up an incline. If driving down a slope, it is good safety practice to back down.
