The audible devices like back-up alarms or motion alarms produce sound that needs to be very loud in order to be heard above the sound which the forklift makes in the operating area.
The sound needs to be readily distinguishable from other audible devices or noises in the work setting. Sound should be readily discernible from other noise or audible devices within the work area. The audible device can end up contributing to OSHA noise limitation and to employee noise exposure; thus, care should be taken.
Determine the distance and direction the sound of the audible device is made harder because of the use of hearing protection. Audible devices could occasionally get deactivated from both operators and workers because they could find them really annoying.
